Anxiety Disorders
INTRODUCTION
There is no data on the recovery rate of anxiety disorder. However, it is estimated to be similar to depression, which 60-70%. Even though not all the patients recover from anxiety disorder, however, treatment does lessen the severity of the illness. The patient shall not overly force themselves to recovery, because this will further increase the anxiety and worsen the condition. The aim shall be “better than before”, rather than “completely well”. Beside medical treatment, patients with anxiety disorder also exhibit good clinical response to psychotherapy.
ANTI-ANXIETY MEDICATIONS
Antidepressants are medically recognized to treat anxiety disorder. Antidepressants are initially developed to treat depression but it was discovered later that it also pose anti-anxiety properties, hence being used officially to treat anxiety disorder.
